So how do you know which of these you can trust? How do you select the best?
Here are seven tips, based on interviews with the heads of seven leading Christian online dating services.
• As far as possible, check the ownership of the site. Not all are run by Christians. Some are owned by large secular organizations that manage many different dating sites. One Christian service is owned by the same company that runs Penthouse magazine.
• If possible ask trusted friends for guidance. And check out the internet for websites offering reviews of Christian dating services.
• Use more than one service. This is a “numbers game,” says the head of one service. You want to have access to as many potential partners as possible.
• How serious is the site about your safety and privacy? This is an important consideration. If you have doubts, contact the service for further information.
• Check out the range of online tools available on the site. How easy is it to navigate? One incentive might be an active members’ forum, allowing you to make new Christian friends, in addition to finding a partner.
• Take advantage of free trial offers or special membership packages. Also, many sites allow a certain amount of free interaction, before requiring that you pay a fee.
• There are also some Christian sites that are completely free, supported by donations and paid advertising. In part, because they lack the resources to promote themselves, they may not have as many members as other sites. But they are still worth checking out.
And a final tip, that is probably unnecessary for Christians – pray!
